Safety of Sunscreens Containing Nanoparticles of Zinc Oxide or Titanium dioxide
Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. The use of sunscreen is an important way to reduce the risk of developing skin cancer and premature skin ageing. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide have been used as sunscreens for many years. They are particularly valuable because of their ability to filter UVA as well as UVB light, giving broader protection than other sunscreening agents. Of the 1200 sunscreens authorised by the TGA for supply in Australia (December 2005), 228 contain zinc oxide, 363 contain titanium dioxide and 73 contain both. Click here for more.

The Chemical Sunscreen Health Disaster

For decades, irresponsible cosmetic companies and a small group of very vocal, publicity-seeking dermatologists have strongly advocated that chemical sunscreens should be heavily applied before any exposure to sunlight, even on young children.
